Do Christians see Jesus as God himself, the son of God, or a messenger of god?

There was a person on here yesterday that said whichever name the Jews of Christ's day gave left off the Jah part because they didn't want people to think He was God or the Son of God. If a person claimed they are the Son of God for some reason people back then would assume that you are God.
