Christians:What makes someone christian what makes someone disbeliever?

For example if a christian doesnt believe in hellfire but believe in Jesus,can he go to heaven.or if someone doesnt believe adultery is sin(he disagrees with God) but believe in Jesus,will he still be accepted as christian.What are the rulings for this issue.If these kind of issues dont make someone disbeliever,what is the point in believing them?
