Once we are dead, how does it matter whether we are sent to heaven or hell to burn in the Hellfire?

Once we are dead, the deadbody does not have any sensation and it does not matter whether the body is burnt up or buried in the earth.Then why do our religions threaten us with Hellfire and godly punishments after death for our imaginary "sins"?
