When is it that you lose weight? Is it during sleep?

Hi, so i'm wondering how it is that you lose weight. Is it during sleep?? The reason why is because I only got 6 hours of sleep last night because of someone...(anyways) and I'm wondering if this messed up my "cutting" from the day before. Do you need a certain number of hours of sleep to lose weight because thats the time when you're burning the fat or is it just that getting few hours of sleep will result in an increased appetite the next day? When is it that we lose that weight?
